SoC Internship Award Program

FOR SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION STUDENTS ONLY: All School of Communication undergraduate students are eligible to apply for the award programs, but priority will be given to undergraduate majors. There are four awards available to students:

The Bomback Internship Award was established in 2018 and is made possible through the generosity of Tema and Mark Bomback. It is open to all SoC majors who obtain a summer internship in New York or Los Angeles.

The Hammerschlag Internship Award is an initiative made possible by the generous donation of the Hammerschlag family. It provides funding to students interning over summer quarter in any market.

The Molotsky Internship Award provides funding to students to help defray the living expenses associated with interning outside of the Chicagoland area. The award is made possible by the generous donation of Barbara Molotsky.

The WCLV Internship Award is an initiative made possible by the generous donation of Robert Conrad. It covers living expenses over summer quarter in any market. While all students are welcome to apply, preference is given for students with internships in the radio industry.

FAQs:

  • Nationwide/International internships: If you are interning outside of the Chicagoland area, you are eligible for the Hammerschlag, Molotksy, and WCLV awards.
  • New York or Los Angeles internships: You are eligible for the Bomback, Hammerschlag, Molotsky, and WCLV awards.
  • Chicagoland internships: If you are interning in the Chicagoland area, you are eligible for the Hammerschlag and WCLV awards.
  • Students who do not have an internship secured by the application deadline are eligible to apply.
  • Internships can be paid or unpaid.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Ability to register internship for the 0 credit internship course
  2. Degree to which the internship will help the student in his or her future career
  3. Financial need
  4. Academic performance

Application Instructions:
Applications materials are due on Monday, April 12th, 2021. The award committee will select the recipients and notify them by Friday, April 23, 2021.
