Eligibility

Support

Eligible students may apply for emergency funding on an as-needed basis. This fund is intended to supplement other campus funds, and thus, students should apply to those funds first and indicate the outcome in this application. We regularly collaborate with campus partners to ensure funds are distributed in an equitable manner.

In addition, eligible students may apply for funding to support academic opportunities (such as course-related travel and materials) that are not covered by other campus funds or programs, such as Books for Cats, on an as-needed basis.

Please do not purchase items in advance without approval. Funds are limited and allocated on a rolling basis, with consideration to distribution across eligible students.

Deadlines

The Buffett Institute will accept requests on as-needed basis. We request that proposals be submitted with as much notice as possible, ideally, with a minimum of 15 days to allow for review, processing, and notification.

Decisions and Notifications

Applications will be reviewed by the Buffett Institute. We strive to make decisions and notify students within 15 days of submission. If requests are urgent, students are encouraged to email Buffett-Undergrad-Programs@Northwestern.edu.

Processing Awards

In cases where direct payment is not possible, we will reimburse you or pay you through a grant that will go through Northwestern payroll. In order to receive funding, students must follow university policies, including providing proper documentation for reimbursable items.

In the proposal, we will evaluate the proposed purchases to ensure that they follow Northwestern policies. Because of this, we ask that you do not make any purchases or commitments until you have received approval.
