Elmer Herbaly Earth & Planetary Sciences Scholarship

The Elmer Herbaly Earth & Planetary Sciences Fund was established in 2016 in memory of Elmer Herbaly to encourage and support undergraduate student engagement in Earth & Planetary Sciences, such as, field course work and research, which will support undergraduate degree completion in this area. Scholarships ranging in amount from $200 to $1,200 are awarded annually based on established criteria. Preference is given to applicants with demonstrated financial need. Applications are considered as received until the current year of funding available is exhausted or the application deadline is reached.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A current/planned project with an EARTH department faculty member or current/planned enrollment by the next academic quarter in an EARTH field based course
  2. A budget must be provided for full application consideration
  3. Sponsorship from a faculty member in the Earth & Planetary Sciences (EARTH) Department

All applications will be responded to by the department within 30 days of receipt. Final award determinations are made as applications are reviewed with all determinations communicated no later than July 31st of the year received.

  1. Please provide a statement explaining your need for this scholarship. Your statement should include one or more of the following pieces of information: either the specific EARTH course you are enrolled in or planning to enroll and for which you have a financial need; OR, the research project you are working on with a current EARTH faculty member; OR, the planned engagement activity with an EARTH faculty member.
  2. Please download and complete THIS BUDGET to provide an outline of the total expenses you expect to incur.
  3. Please list the name and email address of the faculty member, whom you have already approached, to provide a letter of support/sponsorship for this application.
